ETHW difficulty FAQ

How often does ETHW difficulty change?

With every block, roughly every 13 seconds: the network adjusts difficulty to keep block time around 13 seconds. That's why the chart shows the daily average difficulty.

How is ETHW difficulty related to hashrate?

Difficulty is roughly the number of hashes needed to find one block. Divide it by the block time and you get the network hashrate: right now 35.61 T in 12.89 s — about 2.76 TH/s. That's why the difficulty chart almost mirrors the hashrate chart.

Why does the history start in September 2022?

EthereumPoW split from Ethereum on September 15, 2022, when Ethereum moved to Proof-of-Stake. ETHW stayed on Proof-of-Work and the Ethash algorithm, and the chart starts with the first full day after the fork.

How does difficulty affect ETHW miner revenue?

Output is inversely proportional to difficulty: if difficulty rises 10%, the same device mines about 10% less ETHW. See your device's revenue in the ETHW mining calculator.

What is the ETHW block reward?

2 ETHW — the same as Ethereum had before it moved to Proof-of-Stake.

How often is the data updated?

Our server collects difficulty, hashrate and block time every 5 minutes and cross-checks several sources; the page updates every hour. The chart shows the daily average difficulty from these readings, and for past years — from the network's own blocks.
