ETC difficulty FAQ

How often does ETC difficulty change?

With every block, roughly every 13 seconds: the network adjusts difficulty so that blocks are found every 13 seconds on average. That's why the chart shows the daily average difficulty.

How is ETC difficulty related to hashrate?

Difficulty is roughly the number of hashes needed to find one block. Divide it by the block time and you get the network hashrate: right now 2.24 P in 14.16 s — about 158.22 TH/s. That's why the ETC difficulty chart almost mirrors the hashrate chart.

What does “P” mean in the difficulty value?

Quadrillion, 10 to the 15th power. For example, 2.24 P means 2.24 quadrillion.

How does difficulty affect ETC miner revenue?

Output is inversely proportional to difficulty: if difficulty rises 10%, the same ASIC mines about 10% less ETC. See your device's revenue in the ETC mining calculator.

What is the ETC block reward?

1.6384 ETC. Under ECIP-1017 the reward drops 20% every 5,000,000 blocks; the next cut is to 1.31072 ETC at block 30,000,001, around 2028.

How often is the data updated?

Our server collects difficulty, hashrate and block time every 5 minutes and cross-checks several sources; the page updates every hour. The chart shows the daily average difficulty from these readings, and for past years — from the network's own blocks.
